Description

The webinar aimed to explore one of the key themes of the European Humanitarian Forum and of the Commission’s March 2021 Communication on the EU’s Humanitarian Action, namely promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
More specifically, the event examined ways in which the EU’s internal coordination on IHL can be strengthened, in order to enhance IHL advocacy and the use of the EU’s IHL toolbox.
The webinar also tackled the question of strengthening the monitoring of violations of IHL.
In addition, the event focused on the question of addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in armed conflict, including through the Call to Action on Protection from Gender-Based Violence.
Finally, the event discussed the question of safeguarding humanitarian personnel and improving humanitarian access in armed conflicts, including in areas controlled by Non-State Armed Groups (NSAGs). The event also aimed to widen the support to the Humanitarian Call for Action.
