
Alfonso Lozano Basanta is ERCC Deputy Team Leader and focal point in the ERCC for Health related emergencies, Civil-Military Coordination and Logistics operations as well as IHP. Before joining the ERCC, Alfonso worked in DG ECHO in the creation of the European Civil Protection Pool (ECPP) and the certification system for the ECPP capacities. Alfonso is an ERCC Liaison Officer and has been deployed for several missions.
Alfonso’s professional background is in emergency management both within the Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid fields for 22 years, as firefighter as well as humanitarian worker. He became firefighter in 1998 at the Region of Madrid Fire Brigade, Spain, with extensive operational experience and had his first collaboration as volunteer with an NGO in Mozambique in 2000 accumulating 6 years of field experience in humanitarian aid, designing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating humanitarian projects. His academic background is a BSc in social psychology followed by a shift to emergency management in disaster and conflict environments with the NOHA Master in International Humanitarian Action with a focus on Peace & Conflict studies
