
In November 2020, Bediako Kwame Buahene was appointed as the Chief of the Civil-Military Coordination Service (CMCS) for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). CMCS is based in Istanbul, Turkey, with a very small presence in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2018, he joined OCHA Yemen as a Senior Humanitarian Affairs Officer overseeing the Amman Support Hub for Yemen with time spent in Sana’a, Yemen. In addition to being the acting Head or Deputy Head of Office in Sana’a, his main responsibility was to oversee the reporting and monitoring of a half-billion-dollar grant to support the humanitarian response in Yemen. Prior, he held positions in different services of the UNHCR.
Prior to joining the United Nations, Mr. Buahene was a private practice lawyer specializing in immigration and refugee law for nearly eleven years in Vancouver, Canada. He has a law degree as well as a graduate degree in International Relations specializing in Strategic Studies. He currently lives with his family in Istanbul, Turkey
