
Edwin Ceniza Salvador joined the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia as Regional Emergency Director on 1 January 2022. Prior to this, he was the WHO Representative to DPR Korea, He was the Deputy Representative for the WHO Country office for Bangladesh from January 2016, when he was appointed as the Incident Manager by the WHO Representative in August 2017 to lead the initial WHO response and support the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare during the initial influx of Rohingya refugees into Cox’s Bazaar..
Dr. Salvador’s career with the World Health Organization began in 2006 as a Public Health Officer with the WHO Country Office in Sudan based in Kadugli, Southern Kordofan State. Subsequently, he worked in different leadership capacities for WHO country offices in Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Nepal where he also received the WHO Award for Excellence 2016 for his work during the 2015 Nepal Earthquake. Before joining WHO, Dr Salvador worked with Medécins Sans Frontières (MSF) for 7 years in Africa and Asia, and with the International Medical Corps (IMC) for 3 years in Burundi and Uganda. He has an extensive experience in public health, health sector coordination, emergency preparedness and response, and program management. Born in Manila, Philippines, Dr. Salvador is a medical doctor from the Cebu Institute of Medicine, Cebu Philippines and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology. He also obtained his post-graduate qualifications from the University of Liverpool. He is married and has three children.
