Harriet is a 16-year-old young leader from South Sudan, currently residing in Bidibidi refugee settlement in Uganda due to the famine in her home country. Harriet lives with her parents in the settlement since 2016.
Harriet is an active member of child led activities in her community. Due to her agility towards issues affecting fellow children, World Vision has given her an opportunity to advocate for children’s rights outside her community.
On several occasions, Harriet is involved in radio talk shows where she talks about issues affecting children in the settlement and host community. On such shows she deliberates with fellow advocates, policy makers and stakeholders. She says some cultural practices are not fair towards the girl child and she is determined to change the mindset of the community towards certain behaviours that she considers demeaning.
Harriet is a young leader participating at the European Humanitarian Forum through the support of World Vision. Read more about World Vision's Child participation and safeguarding principles here.
