
Jean Bertrand Mothes, Head of the "Fragility, Crises and Conflicts" Division of the French Development Agency (AFD). A specialist in African policy, particularly in the Sahel, Jean-Bertrand Mothes has evolved mainly within the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE). Initially, he worked at the French Embassy in Mozambique and Swaziland, then at the European Parliament as a parliamentary assistant, to find Africa again within the French Embassy in Botswana. Back in Paris, he never left the issues of the continent, first as an editor in the General Directorate of Globalization, then the Directorate of the European Union specifically on issues relating to the Sahel and the West Africa. Finally, as deputy to the West Africa deputy director, he coordinated the management of MEAE policy with the other actors present in the area, in particular those of defense and development.
Mr. Mothes holds a Master's degree in international relations, specializing in Africa and international institutions, from the Institute of Political Studies in Aix-en-Provence and a DEUG in law from the University Montesquieu - Bordeaux IV.
