
Lucio Demichele entered a diplomatic career on in1992, after having served at the Directorate General for Cultural Relations, he was assigned first to the Consulate General of Italy in Frankfurt am Main (1994-1999) and then to the Embassy of Italy in Bucharest (1999-2002).
Returning to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he worked at the Directorate General for Political Affairs (NATO Office) and at the Directorate General for Cultural Relations (Head of the General Director’s Secretariat), before being sent abroad, at the Italian Embassy in Ankara. (2006-2010) and the Permanent Representation to NATO (2010-2013).
From 2013 to July 2016 he was Head of the NATO Office, and from July 2016 until March 2021 Head of the European Foreign and Security Policy Unit, at the Directorate General for Political and Security Affairs.
From 1 April 2021 he assumed the position of Head of the Analysis and Planning Unit at the General Secretariat of the Farnesina.
He has the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary since January 2, 2016.
