Margarita Focas-Licht is the Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the GPE Secretariat. In addition to this role, she is Chief of Effective Partnership. Previously, she was the manager of the Country Support Team. She has more than 25 years of experience working with education in developing countries, including 10 years based in Africa.
Before joining the Secretariat in 2011 Ms. Focas-Licht worked for UNICEF, Save the Children Norway and UNESCO. Her work over the years has focused on education for marginalized children through both formal and alternative basic education. She has played a central role in framing GPE’s role in fragile and conflict-affected contexts since she joined GPE, most recently through a two-year partial secondment to UNHRC to help strengthen attention to refugees in GPE’s strategy and operating model.
