
Riikka Mikkola Formin has a Master’s degree in International Development Economics and more recently in International Strategy and Sustainability. Prior to joining the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, she worked some ten years with UN organizations, supporting the humanitarian responses in for example West-Africa, Middle East and Asia.
Ms. Formin has experience in ensuring access to basic needs in a variety of contexts. She is a long-time advocate for market-based assistance (humanitarian cash assistance), to ensure dignity and choice for people in vulnerable situations. As an advisor to the ministry, she has worked on enhancing the participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities in crises response.
