
Riyanti Djalante is the Head of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (DMHA) Division; Assistant Director of Sustainable Development Directorate, ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Department. She joined the ASEAN Secretariat in October 2020. One of the most important activities she has been engaged on is the adoption of the AADMER Work Programme 2021-2025 in November 2020.
Ms. Djalante brought 10-year professional experience related to disaster management, climate change adaptation and sustainable development. She was an Academic Programme Officer at United Nations University in Germany and Japan between 2015-2020 which coordinated the Research and Policy Development stream on Global Change and Resilience. She was the UNU focal point to the UNDRR. Her teaching and research focus on issues related to sustainable development, governance, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation. She is also involved in global reporting related to the IPCC Assessment Report 6, Special Report on Impacts of 1.5 Degree Celsius and the UN Environment Global Environmental Outlook (GEO) 6.
Ms. Djalante has consulted for various international organizations (World Bank, ADB, USAID) on issues related to sustainable development, governance, and disaster risk reduction in Indonesia. She shortly worked for the Indonesia government involved in disaster management, development planning, implementation, and evaluations–and project planning and management, from the community to the national level. She is an Indonesian national with professional experiences spanning from Australia, South East Asia, Japan, Germany and the Netherlands.
