
Dr. Yaseen Al Mamori serves as the President of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society. Dr. Al Mamori has dedicated himself to the cause of alleviating human suffering in Iraq and has a long and distinguished history with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, dating back to 1994. Before being elected to the Presidency in 2010, Dr. Al Mamori served as the Chair of the Provisional Governing Board from 2008 to 2010. As President, Dr. Al Mamori provides vision and leadership for the society’s humanitarian mission. He has successfully guided the organization through a period of major financial challenges, and expanded the Iraqi Red Crescent’s vision and mission both nationally and internationally, while reducing operating costs and increasing the humanitarian impact.
Dr. Al Mamori has personally lead the emergency humanitarian response and recovery work in some of the Iraq’s most challenging operating environments. Additionally, Dr. Al Mamori interfaces regularly with community's most vulnerable individuals, major international donors, partner organizations, the United Nations, foreign officials, and top Iraqi officials, including members of parliament. These meetings facilitate communication between important donors and stakeholders that allows the Iraqi Red Crescent Society to effectively deliver relief and development assistance. Dr. Al Mamori has broadened the Iraqi Red Crescent Society’s international humanitarian assistance program and continues to raise the profile of Iraq and its people as a nation of charity, solidarity and humanitarian work. Dr. Al Mamori has also strengthened the Iraqi Red Crescent Society’s partnership and collaboration with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, and state and non-state actors, including the private sector and academia.
Dr. Al Mamori is a physician and accomplished surgeon who has pursued a distinguished career in medicine since 1982. Prior to joining the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, Dr. Al Mamori practiced medicine and served as the Chief Executive Officer and Director of number of large in-patient hospitals in Iraq. Dr. Al Mamori was head of the State Company for Marketing Drugs and Medical Appliances (KIMADIA) and served as the Iraq Ministry of Health Director General for its Human Resource Development. In his long professional career, Dr. Al Mamori has played a pivotal role in enhancing clinical practices and patient care. This leadership successfully improved patient care and cost outcomes at the local and national levels. Among his significant accomplishments, Dr. Al Mamori pioneered the vision and initiative for post-2003 Iraq continuing medical education (CME) and continuing professional development (CPD) practices. He has opened and commissioned a new hospital and introduced a drug distribution system for KIMADIA, the only authorized dealer for the pharmaceuticals and drugs sold to private pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics in Iraq. Dr. Al Mamori has also designed, supervised, and authored a large number of published medical studies and experiments. He is an active member and contributor to several prominent medical associations, including the Iraqi Medical Association, the Surgeons Society of Iraq, the Iraq Society of Gastroenterology, and the Iraqi Diabetes Society. Also, Dr. Yaseen is a member in the Islamic Committee of International Crescent.
